LIQUOR LAW
Jeffcott Law LLC’s primary focus is Liquor Law. We assist individuals and businesses obtain a liquor permit so their businesses can serve alcohol either on premise or for carry-out. Once a client’s business is open and operating, we also serve as a general business counsel to make sure clients are staying compliant with Ohio’s intricate liquor laws. In the event of a liquor permit citation or violation, we also represent clients at hearings before the Liquor Control Commission.
BUSINESS LAW
When businesses are first starting out, it is helpful to work an attorney to make sure that the business is properly formed and registered with the state of Ohio. Jeffcott Law LLC will help you register your business with the Ohio Secretary of State, draft a partnership or operating agreement, and obtain other necessary items such as a Federal Employer Identification Number and a Vendor’s License. Finally, if your business is leasing property, it is important for an attorney to review the lease before it is signed, especially if you plan on obtaining a liquor permit, in order to negotiate terms to best suit your business’ needs.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA LAW
On September 8, 2016, Ohio House Bill 523 took effect and legalized medical marijuana in the state of Ohio. The newly formed Medical Marijuana Control Program is now working with the Department of Commerce and the Ohio Pharmacy Board to establish the specific rules and guidelines to govern the cultivation, processing, testing, dispensing, and medical use of marijuana. Because the Medical Marijuana Control Program will have some similarities to Ohio’s Liquor Control Program, Jeffcott Law LLC is staying informed throughout this rule-drafting process. When the Medical Marijuana Program goes live in September 2018, Jeffcott Law LLC will be prepared to assist business owners become licensed retail dispensaries and offer legal advice to patients and caregivers to ensure they stay compliant with these new laws.
LEGAL FEES
Jeffcott Law LLC offers both flat and hourly rates. For most matters we prefer to enter into a flat rate agreement because it provides our clients with cost certainty, and allows clients to freely communicate with us every step of the way. Depending on the nature of the case, an hourly rate may be necessary. However, no matter the fee agreement, initial consultations are always free.
